Kabalikat sa Edukasyon

OVERVIEW

The team decided to choose the category “Kabalikat sa Edukasyon”, in which we are going to teach parents on how to use computer. In a community, only those old people are left behind in this generation when we speak about high technologies. So, the team decided to help them not to be ignorant. We conducted our community work last December 17, 2009 in Paulio’s residence. We conducted it in a detailed way or what we called step by step for them to understand well. The team explained first what is a computer, then its parts and as well as its function. Then we taught them how to start or open the computer and before we proceed to the next step, we let them to open it. After that, we discussed to them the four basic Microsoft offices and how to use it. Then we let them to have the opportunity to explore (like how to open an icon and how to save a file). Our beneficiaries are the relatives of Chen-Chen Paulio (Delia Paulio, Nonita Hamili, Elvie Paulio, Basilisa Hamili, Michelle Paulio).

SIGNIFICANCE

In today’s generation, almost all system is embedded with high- tech machines. One of these is computer. Computers are a very big help to man’s life. It makes life easier and more comfortable. If you are a computer literate, you have a marvelous advantage. You are above to those who are not. And it is not surprising that even small ones know how to handle computers.

However, there are still who are left- behind. And teaching them how to use computer will be a big help for them specially parents (those who don’t know how to use computer). There are some parents who are cheated by their children. They are taking by granted because of their ignorance. Their children are viewing porno sites and sometimes they are saving it. If parents know how to use computer, they can check the wrong doings of their children, thus, they can put security code and could discipline them.

When we conducted our community work, I have listed many observations and these are as follows:

• When we let them open the computer, at first they are afraid.
• When let them hold the mouse, they can’t move it freely.
• When we let them click an icon, it’s hard for them to double click it.

Concluding, based on what I observed, ignorance will make people afraid to try or learn new things. So, we should teach them and do not criticize.

The team chose KABALIKAT SA EDUKASYON, wherein we taught parents or aged people on how to use computer. Honestly, I was reluctant of having this kind of community service, but do I have a choice? Or should I say? Do we have a choice? We need to do this for our grades’ sake. But, along the way, as we were conducting this, I found joy in my heart. I was enjoying teaching parents and sharing them information about computers. And after the two-hour community service, after seeing the smiles on their faces, it made my heart jump! My heart was teeming with happiness. Even for a short time, the team was able to teach them how to use computer and realize its significance on the lives of every individual. It was really fulfilling !

Teaching parents in using computers is one of the great experience that I have. We enjoyed teaching some parents on how to surf in an internet, how to use the Microsoft office and others. At first, I’m nervous and a little bit shy because I thought that parents are more expect to use computers but when we started teaching parents, I realized that we are more expert than them. Based on my experience, I realize that we should teach our parents on how to use the computers because computers nowadays have many benefits to us. Aside from entertainment, one of the uses or benefits of computers is that they are able to provide and retrieve information so quickly and easily.
